4: Two Duets and a Solo

The day, for the girls, started at 3 pm. Anisha was the first one to get up. She opened the door, and picked up the newspaper. It was late afternoon already. She carelessly browsed through the pages. Her expression changed gradually from a calm one to a shocked one as she saw the report of the accident that had happened the previous night.
She read the article thrice, but did not find her name. The article was a very FYI kind of a report and it neither spoke about the victim nor the culprits.
She considered thanking Mihir, but she thought she better not. She realised she was smitten by the Good Samaritan, but refused coming to terms with it. Supposedly she was already in love with a family friend and now she was in a catch-22 situation.

Isha was busy chatting with her friend. The pings on the messenger window varied from ‘I-am-missing-you-my-applepie’ to ‘Wish-you-were-here’.

“Val, wake up. I want to show you something”, said Isha.

Isha had no idea what she’d said to Vallerie the previous night.

“I don’t care, Isha”, said Vallerie in a hurt tone.

“I just wanted to tell you that Jai and I made up and I have realised that he is indeed the one”, said Isha ecstatically. “Your friend is simply perfect.”

Vallerie woke up and wished she shouldn’t have …

She badly wanted to get back to her dreams where everything seemed perfect…

The not-so-perfect life sucked, as much as others thought she did….
