Need vs Want

"Ken, how much would a mobile phone cost?"

"Some hundred thousand dollars"

"How much is a hundred thousand dollars?"

"It's a huge money. My Grampa used to earn thhhaaattt much.."

"He did??.. Wow!!"

"But why do you want a mobile phone"

"I want to stay in touch with.."

"With??.."

"I don't know..I just want it. Everbody has it."

"You are right Betty. I think I want it too!"

"Grampaaa...."

"Yes Kid.. tell me..what is it now?"

"Do you have hundred thousand dollars"

"You bet.. Son.. If I had that, I wouldn't be here with your Gramma.."

"What do you mean, Grampa.."

"Ah. Chuck it kid. Tell me why do want that much of money"

"We want a mobile phone."

"Oh.. I see.. and what would you need that for?"

"To keep in touch with Betty.. Isn't it gurl.. you tell him too."

"Yes Grampa. I need a mobile too."

"Come, sit down here. Keeping in touch has better ways too. Mobile phone is really really bad. We use it because we are old. Our Brains are already dying. You don't want a dull brain, do ya?"

"No.. we don't. But why do mum and dad use it?"

"Because they are very busy, and they don't anyway use their brains!"

"Hmmm... I get you grampa.."

"And if you want to keep in touch with Betty, write letters."

"We do it in our creative writing class already. I don't wanna do it again."

"It's really fun, you know. Try doing it."

"Alright. If you say so.Come Betty, lets write each other letters"

"Yes, Ken. Get us a paper pad, Grampa, Won't you?"

"Right away kids!"

What Do I fear?

She boarded the next metro that arrived and headed towards nowhere. She had no clue where she was going.

"How long will you run away?"

"As long as I can. I don't want to go back there. Again!"

"But that's what is best for you!"

"You don't tell me what is good, better, best for me. I decide it for myself, ON MY OWN!!"

"Right! Drink till your liver rots then"

"I will. How do you care about me?"

"I really don't. But I think, our daughter does. She is one little soul who understands everything you do, everything I say."

"Yes... Alright. Leave me in peace"

While she recollected the spat she had with her husband some hours ago, she lighted another cigarette and suddenly realised that she was in the metro train.
The Fire Alarm caused the train to stop and she was asked to get down.
The cops at the station started interrogating.

She said, "I am Kavita. Kavita Mehra. Kavita Anil Mehra"
She was allowed to go.

While she covered the distance between the platform and the closest seating area, a book from her bag fell. She picked it up and a fact hit her hard - Loneliness!

She took her phone and dialled a number, "Hello... GoodLife Retreat Home?"

City-Line

I was going from Kothrud to JM road on my Car-dio and I happened to cross a circle near FC road. The traffic was such that for every milimeter displacement of vehicle I would get a sense of Euphoria.

So inch by inch we moved and I happened to overhear a conversation. I turned back to see who was talking, and I spotted two guys on a Pulsar.

I couldn't keep my eyes glued on them, so I concentrated my ears on them, while I also made my way through the traffic.

Guy 1: "Aiseich turn liya uss truck ne jaise apan le rahe na"

Guy 2: "Hao kya... bey..."

Guy 1: "Fir wo ekdam nai chaka chak civic ko ghaseet te gaya. Kya mahol gaadi thi
be"

Guy 2: "Arrrrr"

Guy 1: "Aur wo Civic waale ko bhi chool machi thi. Wo bhi daba ke nikaalra gaadi"

Guy 2: "Ghis dala kya poora?"

Guy 1: "Hao na.. Pooraich"

Meanwhile, I was paving through the traffic and finding my way out, and also wondering, why was I having so much fun eavesdropping.

I wanted the conversation to go on, but the traffic cleared and the incessant horns forced me to give them side. I thought,I better have a look at the guys, incase I knew them, because the conversation was so familiar, the warmth was so similar.

I let the guys on the bike overtake. They went past by me pretty fast. I couldn't notice them properly.

I looked at the bike and a nice MH31 smiled back at me!

"Woich toh", I thought!!

Sigh...!! Nagpur!!

Wrong Leap

My sister's batch is giving a fresher's party to the new admissions in their college.
Since I have always boasted of my extra curricular stints, my sister, called me up and asked me to guide her on a few events.
It's been 4 years that I am out of college and I haven't done anything creative in a while.

She asked "Tell me a good name for the fresher's event"

I began with "Jhankaar, Josh, Crescendo, Chrysalis"

She said, "They are all taken by the other college for their events. We cannot repeat the names"

So I did the age old trick of translating pretty English words into Latin and Greek to get some attractive names.
I ended up with "Amplexus" which meant "Embrace".

So I thought what can be more apt than an Embrace for the freshers. That is how we welcome our new friends. So I justified and suggested the name and my sister and her college mates really liked it.
I was glad I could use my brains creatively and be of some help to these college students.
So all pretty invitations were prepared with the name Amplexus! I kinda felt proud of myself too.

Then this morning, my sister calls me up and asks "Are you sure Amplexus means welcome?"

I replied, "Sure it does, why?", meanwhile I opened the Google and searched for the actual meaning.

My sister said "Amplexus means the copulating act of the Frogs. What the F***!!"

I was embarrassed, so I confirmed, and indeed it said "Amplexus (Latin "embrace") is a form of pseudocopulation in which a male amphibian grasps a female with his front legs as part of the mating process."

Shhaayyy... poor freshers would almost have been classified as Frogs, had the event name been Amplexus!!

I blame it all on my education!! I should have taken Biology atleast until 12th :(

Now the event's name is Nexus!

Yes, I suggested this one again! And I am fearing a reprimand on this one too.. :P

God save me!!

Camouflaged

An Ephmereal joy
on the face
An eloqouence
in the silence
of utmost grace

A sight that's fetching
a heart's peace
A gambolling damsel
on a land
of lease

                   Forbearing the force
of langour, so lame
A tiring effort
to resist
a familiar name

A smile that hides
the desultory pain
Eyes yearning for
a serendipity
soon again.

A jaded wish
and effervescent eyes
An eternal search
for a thousand
and one alibis.

Girlfriends - Part 5

Girlfriends - Part 1            Girlfriends - Part 2              Girlfriends - Part 3          Girlfriends - Part 4

"So all said done, my friend
A human is never satisfied
Be it spouse, children, money or health
we all want it glorified"

"It's been a wonderful change
in the daily chores that I do
I think, I feel amazing
When I sit and talk to you"

"That's what friends are for
to hear out what you say"
"We love like crazy, we are mad women
And we sometimes have our way"

"How I wish men would have
an iota of our heart"
"If they did, they would have it all
then what would be my part?"

"Yes, for this and more
I could keep coming back to you"
"Atleast you would understand what I mean
When I choose lavender over blue"

"But now while we wait for that to happen
let me call my dude
I'll have to ask him to take his medicines
without being very rude"

"And I have to go back home
to mend his shirts and boots
He said he wanted some caramel pudding
when I insisted on some fruits"

"Back to square one, we got no choice
We have to seek our fate"
"But time and again, I'll meet you, girl
You make me feel so great"

"And so do you, sweetheart
It's affection, so different, you see"
"I love you so much, and shall always do
just the way you love me"

"A deep desire and a silly wish
I hope sometime it comes true"
"Somewhere in the eternity
I get to spend my life with you"
